What kind of magic is it?
Close-up magic, performed inches away rather than from a stage. Cards, coins and borrowed objects, often happening in the children's own hands. It is the kind of magic you cannot look away from, because there is nowhere for it to hide.
What age is the show for?
Eight and up. Close-up magic rewards children who are old enough to watch properly and think about what they just saw, and that is where it lands hardest. Younger children are welcome in the room, but 8 and up is the audience Cash writes for.
How long does it run?
Thirty to forty-five minutes as a rule. If the room is with him and the children are still locked in, he will keep going to the full hour. He would rather leave them wanting more than watch attention drift.
How much space do you need?
Very little. Cash arrives with one case and a stand. A space about five feet wide and three feet deep is enough, with roughly three feet of clear floor in front of him for the children to sit.
How many children can watch?
There is no maximum. He has performed for twenty-five children in a living room and for a full school gym. Tell him the number when you book and he will set up for it.
Do you bring your own sound?
Yes. Cash brings his own speaker, and music is built into the show rather than played over it. Nothing is needed from you. The show also works perfectly well with no sound at all, so a quiet room or a venue with a noise limit is no problem.
What do we need to do beforehand?
Two things. Somewhere everyone can sit comfortably and see, and no food right before the show. A room full of children on a sugar high cannot sit still, and the show is the part they will remember.
Can you perform outdoors?
Yes, with one condition. It has to be shaded, and the sun needs to be behind the children rather than in front of them. Facing into the sun, they cannot see what his hands are doing, which is the whole show.
How do we book?
Fill in the booking form and an invoice follows. There is no deposit and no instalments. The date is held once the invoice is paid in full.
How far ahead should we book?
About a week is comfortable. Three days is the minimum. Saturdays go first, so if you have a date in mind it is worth asking early even if the details are not settled.
Where do you travel?
Kids shows are local. Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, from Vancouver and Burnaby out to Langley, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. Whistler is possible but depends on the schedule, so ask before you count on it.
Is tax on top of the price?
No. Every price Cash quotes includes GST. The number you are given is the number you pay.
